Laurel Bank House was built in 1892 as a summer guest house at the top of Stanley Street overlooking Lake Wakatipu. At the time, Laurel Bank House was one of only five boarding houses and three hotels in Queenstown. Of these original hotels and houses, only Laurel Bank House and Hulbert House remain intact today.
Laurel Bank House was moved to a 5-acre site on Ladies Mile in 2007 and lovingly restored to its former glory by its current owners, Sheena & Steve. They ensured that the renovation stayed true to its original style and grace by installing heritage features and fittings throughout the home. Whilst Laurel Bank House now has a new roof, plumbing and wiring, you will instantly feel the old-world charm when you walk through the front door. Latterly, Laurel Bank House doors have been opened to the public as a Guest House and has received fantastic reviews. Laurel Bank House has a Heritage 3 listing under QLDC's District and Sheena & Steve received a community award in 2008 for saving a piece of Queenstown history.
Laurel Bank House is located within the QLDC Proposed District Plan 'Large Lot Residential Zone' on a North-facing site with views of Coronet Peak. The topography and planting provide privacy from its surrounding properties. The owners have commissioned a professional planners report to give an opinion on future subdivision potential and an explanation of the PDP Large Lot Residential zone rules. This report is available upon request and suggests that the site is subdivisible under the District Plan.
