This elegant residence, known as 'Casa Caviglia', is located in the centre of a characteristic village in the Bormida Valley, about 8 km from Acqui Terme, a renowned thermal town in the province of Alessandria. The history of 'Casa Caviglia' originates from important religious settlements: in the first decades of the 16th century, some Dominican monks took up residence in a ruin outside the walls of the medieval village of Rivalta Bormida. On that ruin a convent was built, to which an oratory, that still exists today, was later annexed. Over the centuries the complex was expanded and modernized with religious functions. In the 19th century the Caviglia family radically transformed the structure into an elegant residence which, thanks to the presence of a small 'hortus conclusus', still maintains the ancient cloistered charm. 'Casa Caviglia' was for the great philosopher of law, historian and politician Norberto Bobbio, the pride of XXth century Italian culture, 'the garden of his childhood', his mother's house where he spent the summer. Today the property, although in need of some renovation, presents intact the charm of the nineteenth century interventions, thanks also to a careful conservative restoration made by the current owners. The house measures about 400 square meters and it develops on two levels. The ground floor is characterized by an important entrance, in which the elegant staircase is mainly striking, then we find a frescoed studio with a beautiful tiled stove, a music room with fireplace, a bathroom, a kitchen, a frescoed dining room and two further rooms overlooking the small garden. Upstairs, the staircase opens into an antechamber with bow-window, a library and a large terrace. Currently the second level consists of a study, a bedroom with en suite bathroom, a sitting room and a bedroom with balcony. Through a service staircase one can reach the second floor, to be completely renovated, and that can be potentially turned into a loft of about 150 sqm. Given the location, the property lends itself well as a b&b accommodation; in fact it lies at few minutes from the center of Acqui Terme, in the Alto Monferrato; a renowned area for tourism related to food and wine excellence just over an hour away from the main cities of Milan, Turin and Genoa.
