The Convent of Alpendurada, located in the parish of Alpendurada and Matos, municipality of Marco de Canavezes, is surrounded by a landscape of extreme beauty. The convent encima a property of about 47 hectares on the banks of the Douro River, and much of its land, about 1.5 Kilometers, bathed by the fresh water of the river. Its foundation date of the century XI, having been erected by the order Benedictine Order in times prior to the formation of nationality. Later in the century. XII, and given its size and profitability, D. Teresa Couto has this property, and D. Afonso Henriques, the first king of Portugal, administered it. The convent remained in the possession of the counts of Alpendurada until 1926. This convent was adapted to hotel, saving 40 rooms in high context of Medieval History and assets. It still has all its beauty and wealth, a fascinating austerity with influences from periods Romantic and Mozarabic. These influences are visible in the magnificent halls, considered by some archaeologists as unique in the world. The areas in which consists the convent, we highlight its chapel, the halls of Arab influence, areas and leisure facilities such as the pool.
